Table(top) Games...
A Classic Entertainment Revival
Why We Joined the Revival Ourselves:
Tabletop games are as timeless as dancing when it comes to entertainment. While our mission for several decades was to transform the DJ industry—and we did—our focus has now shifted.
From the beginning, we anticipated one of two outcomes:
1. We would establish a first-mover advantage and carve out a unique niche in the hospitality industry.
2. Or, the industry would take cues from our innovations and develop its own version—one they could fully control.
Unfortunately, someone we trusted—and who didn’t act ethically—leaked our strategy. This tip-off allowed industry players to replicate our model, but with a twist: they began hiring less experienced DJs, offering unpaid gigs as “auditions,” followed by low-wage contracts. This practice diluted the value of skilled DJs and pushed rates downward.
As for the individual who compromised our plans, we won’t name them. They’re a stereotype at this point, and their behavior discredits the profession they represent.
In response, we've pivoted to a more inclusive, affordable form of hospitality: tabletop games. These require less equipment, less computing power, and invite more people to participate. For those who once sought high-cost entertainment, we now offer an equally fun, lower-cost alternative.
What We Hope We Did for Video Games:
Very few people know this unless they were there—but we helped lower video game prices and prevent a pricing surge decades ago by creating the first video game website that offered gameplay videos to customers before they made a purchase.
We'll be linking the article that covered our game store innovation, along with the patent document that proves our claim. This will help explain why we later chose to do what we did in the DJ and hospitality industries.
The truth is, if someone knew who we are and understood our family legacy, they'd know our family has been involved in affordable housing since before the owner was born. It only makes sense that he would eventually dedicate himself to making expensive things more affordable—rather than chasing unrelated goals.
That’s exactly what happened. The owner helped make video games more affordable worldwide. He also made DJ-ing more accessible—although the unintended consequence has been an industry push to lower costs by pitting lesser-known DJs against established professionals. This is an unethical approach. By contrast, the owner's platform made DJ Mixes affordable by offering them free to listeners, while still complying with all DJ regulations.
The owner has never supported the exploitative nature of many U.S. business practices—something he began to notice shortly after graduating high school. He believed such exploitation would only reduce quality and increase hardship, especially in industries serving customers whose wages have failed to keep pace with inflation and cost of living. In fact, wages have lagged behind for more than six decades.
Instead of exploiting markets—meaning people—for profit, the owner chose to build a legacy around innovating ways to solve that problem. That’s the backstory.
What's Next for Phantom Records:
We've transitioned to Tabletop Games as an alternative to technology-intensive video games, because tabletop games are more affordable and promote social interaction, in contrast to the isolation often encouraged by consumer video games.
While the owner still enjoys video games and maintains an interest in E-Sports—primarily to stay current with developments in the gaming industry—he only dabbles in E-Sports as a curiosity, not as a means of earning income.
